It is with extreme sadness that we have to inform members and friends of the passing of club stalwart Chris Marriott on Saturday the 13th July following a short illness.

The word 'stalwart' is often used in these situations....... but never has it been more appropriate.  Chris served our club in a variety of roles over many many years once his playing days came to an end.  Not only did he serve on various committees and was a mainstay of the Wednesday maintenance gang, but he also refereed,  ran touch for the Mighty Twos and most notably was the Fixture Secretary for more years than anyone can accurately remember.  All these tasks were always carried out with the minimum of fuss or fanfare.  He simply got on with the job in hand to give others the opportunity to play our wonderful game.

The attached photo probably sums him up best.  In January 2016, Scotland was blanketed with snow.  The fixture calendar that day was decimated but Chris was determined that the 2nd XV game against Allan Glens would go ahead on the 4G pitch.  "But what about the lines Chris?"...... "Don't worry.....I'll take care of that"....... and of course he did, sweeping his way around the pitch for the entire duration of the match.  When play was up at one end, Chris would clear the 22 metre line at the other and so it went on.  All so that 30 guys could get a game of rugby.

On a personal note, I can remember Chris still playing for the 2As when I started at the club.  Always there to welcome new faces.  Always carrying his 'Adidas Flanker' boots should he be required to fill a gap at fullback.  Always enjoying his post match cigar and pint of Best.  I will miss him greatly.  Not all superheros wear capes.

Our thoughts are with his wife Margaret and the rest of the family.  Funeral details will be posted on here once known.
