Martyn Pryde
Saturday, 16 November 2024
It is with great sadness and shock that we have to inform members and friends of the recent death of Martyn 'The Ghost' Pryde after a short illness.
Marty followed in his father's footsteps and joined West in the late seventies and proved to be the catalyst for a long line of 'Airdrie Boys' who contributed greatly to the club on the playing front at that time.
Marty was a very acomplished rugby player and his love of all things West meant that when the boots were eventually hung up he was a regular on the Burnbrae touchline, always willing to help out whenever required.
To know Marty was to love him. A gentle kind man with a great sense of humour. He will be greatly missed and our collective thoughts are with brother Stuart and the extended family.
Marty's funeral will be held at 2.30pm on Monday the 2nd December at Holytown Crematorium, Memorial Way, ML1 5RU. The wearing of red & yellow is greatly encouraged.
A number of contemporaries of 'The Ghost' will gather at the club next Saturday (23rd November) to celebrate the life of one of West's favourite sons. If you enjoy a good story, it will be the place to be as I am sure there will be many told.
Rest Easy Marty.
